Bird Nest

We found this bird nest in the wreath on the front door. We felt terrible taking it down, but we're trying to sell the house and needed to clean up the front porch. You can clearly see there were no eggs in it. But then the next morning I found one broken on the doorstep. Oops! How did that happen? It wasn't there the night before!

Bird Egg

We were out doing yard work and I found a little blue bird egg in the grass.  We have a bird house in the tree I found it under, so it must have come from there.  I showed it to the kids, who thought it was the coolest thing ever.  We figured it was probably not going to end up hatching, but I told the kids to be careful with it anyway.  We left it where we found it and continued with the yard.  Then a few minutes later we were by the patio and heard a little "smack!"  I turned around to see the egg smashed on the ground.  Sidney was standing there staring at it.  Her reply when we asked her why in the world she did that was, "I wanted to see if a bird was inside."  Luckily it was unfertilized, or at least it didn't look like it.  Then of course she didn't believe me it was actually a bird egg and she kept saying, "See mom, it's not a bird egg.  There was no bird inside, so it's not a bird egg."

Bird

A couple of nights ago Josh and I started hearing a noise coming from somewhere while we were getting ready for bed.  But we were really tired, so we didn't think much about it.  The next morning I could still hear it.  I followed the noise into the laundry room.

Something was in there.

It sounded like a small animal wildly scampering about.  After debating if I should open the door, I very cautiously cracked it open, bracing myself for whatever was in there.  Nothing came out, so I peered into the washer, which was open.  Nothing.  So it must be the dryer.  The thing sounded out of control.  Once again I stood there debating whether or not I should open the dryer.  I was envisioning opening it and a large rat leaping at my face and clawing my eyes out, or a bird flying at my face and pecking me to death.  So for whatever reason I very slowly opened the dryer.  Nothing came out.  But the thing continued to make noise all day, giving me the creeps every time I walked by the laundry room.

When Josh got home he investigated.  Something was in the vent.  A bird most likely.  So he put on some gloves, shut the door, and went to work.  Meanwhile, I got Sidney and I as far away as possible.  (I had an incident with a bird in college.)  I expected to hear wild noises coming from upstairs, but luckily it was pretty uneventful.  When Josh opened the vent up a bird flew out and started flying all over the place, actually trying to avoid Josh, not peck him to death.  I don't trust wild animals, even little birds.  He finally caught it with his hands, and a few minutes later came downstairs to show it to us.

And that was the excitement of our week.

500

This is my 500th post.  I've had my blog for almost 4 years.  And this is why I keep it up.  I love these Blurb books.  I'm a little behind on putting them together.  I just got my 2009 book a couple weeks ago.  But I love them, and you will too if you get them made.  My kids love to look through them and see themselves in a book.  Especially Sidney, who likes to point at every person and say who they are.
