Halloween

I couldn't convince the kids to have a family theme this year. But that's ok, they were really happy with their costumes.

Darth Vader

This was the first time I decorated the car for trunk or treat, only because we had some decorations from Jayden's birthday. 

Sidney saw this butterfly costume on Pinterest, and it's what she really, really wanted. I think it's kind of funny because she's not super into butterflies or anything. She looked really cute. 

 

Tanner wore the baseball that Jayden wore at this age. 

Since the kids didn't want to match I made Josh be a hunter and a deer couple. 

After trunk or treat Tanner climbed into the trunk and started chowing down.

 

We went trick or treating with friends and when we got back they all dumped the candy on the floor. There was SO MUCH candy. We went home and weighed ours. 16 pounds! Crazy!

 



 

 

 

Halloween

 Sidney has been talking about being Elsa for a year. I looked at every fabric store in town and couldn't find exactly what I wanted, but she was thrilled with her dress.

 

 

She wanted me to be Anna, so I put together an outfit from my closet. We borrowed a moose hat from our friends for Josh to wear for Sven, but he got home on the late side and we never got a picture with him.

 

Jayden and I are reading the Harry Potter series together. He wanted me to make his costume too, so I had a lot of fun with costumes this year.

 

 

Tanner hated his costume. He pulled his hat off and cried. But then it took him two seconds to understand the whole trick or treating thing, and after that he didn't really think about his costume that much. He was way too cute trick or treating, and his costume was a big hit. He would walk into front doors with his bucket out stretched. He would be given candy, and he would keep standing there, and people thought he was cute, so they gave him more. Is it weird I felt bad eating his candy? He worked so hard for it.

 

 

 



Wreck it Ralph Halloween

I wish Halloween came around more often.  I have all these ideas for costumes, but only so many people to dress up, and I only get to do it once a year.  The geek in me loves it.  We settled on Wreck it Ralph.  It wasn't the most popular movie, but it was easy to do, and had a lot of characters to choose from.  Jayden was on board until he thought about it more, and changed his mind.  But to humor his mom, he dressed as Fix it Felix for a few pictures, which was nice because we pulled everything from the closet.

 

Before the ward trunk or treat. Jayden is Agent P from Phineas and Ferb.  I forgot to get a picture of his tail. Not many people got who we were at first.  Some people thought Josh was a hillbilly.  That shows how awesome my sewing skills are, ha!

Tanner was Zangief, a street fighter from a video game.  One person actually knew who he was, that made my day.  I had a blast putting this costume together, he looked awesome with chest hair.  He was eating snacks in the car, and we found some stuck in it when we got home.  So funny.  If you don't know who Zangief is, look it up.  How could I not make my baby into him? 

Sidney loved getting into character.  In the movie, Taffyta, her character, is the mean girl.  She's mean to my character, Vanellope.  I didn't ask her to be her, but the first time she put the dress on, she started acting all snotty to me.  Oops, next year will have to be a nice girl.  We fixed the issue quickly.

Remember how the last couple of years I took the kids to a place with gorgeous, tall trees dripping in fall color for some nice Halloween pictures?  Yeah, Houston literally has zero fall color.  I wanted to at least find some green trees, but life has been really busy, so we never got to it.  So here's our trick-or-treating night.  At the last minute Sidney wanted to go out as a butterfly, so we pinked her up with dress up clothes, and we were off.  This fits her much better than Taffyta, I think. 



A Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween.  I love planning the costumes down to the last detail, making them, dressing my kids up, and watching them run from door to door collecting candy yelling thank you over their shoulders as they run down the driveway. I love pumpkins, and leaves crunching under my feet as we walk around our neighborhood on a cool October evening.  I love watching Sidney cuddle up to her daddy when we walk by the scary decorated houses, seeing all the little kids dressed as cute little dragons and monkeys and cartoon characters, and I even loved the teenager across the street dressed as some kind of grim reaper playing electric guitar on his roof.  So you can bet this is the one occasion a year I make sure to get some proper photos of my kids.  I always have grand plans to do some cute themed pictures for all the other holidays, but it usually doesn't happen.

 

First up is Batman.

 

I have way more of Cinderella.  She was a lot more excited about the pictures than Batman was.  Don't be too surprised she's not wearing pink.  She insisted her tutu underneath be pink.

Josh as Robin in his traditional t-shirt costume.  And I'm the Fairy Godmother.  Some people didn't get it at first.
