Discover Week

The kids came up with the theme this week because they wanted to go to Discovery Place. Our fail of the week was making a new treat. When I saw it on Pinterest I thought it was a science experiment treat, but once we started making it I realized it was just a gross mixture of a few simple ingredients. No one really liked it, and it wasn't even worth taking pictures of.

 

To make our trip to Discovery Place a little extra fun we took the train uptown. Quick tip: when you buy tickets using cash, it doesn't give change in bills. So I walked around all day with $12 in quarters in my purse.

The special exhibit right now is all about guitars. It was really cool, we loved it.

We met Josh for lunch. 

Josh and I made our own discovery this week as well. I had planned a date for our anniversary to a baseball game, but we decided not to go because it was raining and thundering, and you never know how bad it's going to get. I was so bummed because I had surprised him with this date. Every other idea I had involved being outside, so since we're super boring, we ended up going to a movie. Oh well, there's always next year. Anyway, Josh has a co-worker up in Princeton who lives by a Lindt chocolate outlet. She was always telling Josh about all these good deals she was getting, so when we found out one opened here, we had to go. Happy Anniversary to us!



Tannerisms

Poop stories:

1. Tanner picked up a poopy diaper and ran to Sidney with it. He held it up to her and started laughing and making fart sounds. She didn't really appreciate that.

2. There was a dirty diaper in a sack and he was flinging it around the room, almost hitting people with it.

3. He was running around naked, laughing hysterically, facing his rear at everyone (especially Sidney) and pointing at his rear, making fart sounds. I have a really funny video of it, he's absolutely nuts!

 

 

Tanner is a busy, busy, busy boy. He is always doing something hyper and crazy. One morning before church he was riding Jayden around like a horse. Lots of laughter and always getting hurt, hitting his head on something.

Now that we have 1:00 church Tanner doesn't get a nap, so he comes home exhausted. He fell asleep and it was really hard to wake him up.

 

 

He likes to copy his brother and sister. 

 

 Tanner loves to beat up on Jayden.

 

Sidneyims

Her little phrases of what she's hotter than keep coming out of her mouth. "I'm hotter than a hippopotamus with a sunburn!"

We went to a birthday party for a two year old. A couple days later she asked me, "What kind of birthday party were we at?" I told her SpongeBob. She got the most disgusted look on her face, and shrieked, horrified, "I was at a SpongeBob party?!?!?"

She put this on her head during craft time and said she was a pioneer.

Ice Cream Week

Yummy week! One fun thing we did was make our own ice cream in a Ziploc bag.

We made ice cream play dough. It looked and smelled just like ice cream.

 

I found a recipe for magic shell sauce that worked out great.

It was free meal day at Chick-fil-a so we dressed up like cows and we were going to trade in the toy for ice cream, but the kids wanted to keep the toy. We ended up getting free cookies because we had to wait a few minutes for our food, so we were happy with that. Plus they gave Tanner a free meal too even though he didn't dress up because he screamed when I tried. Can you blame him, it is pretty embarrassing.

 

Sidney wore all white and was dressed like this, she's our little fashionista. 

We hit up Steak-n-Shake for happy hour and got some delicious shakes on a hot afternoon.

Another art project was to make puffy paint ice cream pictures, which turned into playing in shaving cream. Their pictures turned out really cute.

 

 

We ate a lot of ice cream during the week. We had to. 

 

 

Another little craft. They also played a game where they caught balloons in cones made out of paper.

I made them reading bingo sheets so when they got a bingo they earned a trip to Bruster's. I think this week was definitely kid approved. One of the things on their Bingo chart was to read in the bathtub.



Time Travel Week

Each day of the week we learned about different time period. We had ancient Greece, ancient Rome, ancient Egypt, Colonial America, and future day. Our movie for the week was "Mr. Peabody and Sherman."

 

We made laurel wreath crowns and togas. Tanner wanted nothing to do with it.

Our first attempt at a time machine. This is the only box we have, but it was pretty small and hard to play with. 

 Tanner really, really didn't like it.

So we came up with a new plan. We turned a whole area of our apartment into a time machine. The kids had so much fun creating it.

 

Control Center. All the buttons have a purpose.

The back of the ship. They made an intercom, abort mission button, snack machine, and all kinds of fun things. They ended up using the original time machine as a souvenir box to collect things on their trips through time. They have spent hours playing in it, traveling to all kinds of places and having all kinds of adventures.

 

For each civilization we learned about we read lots of books and drew lots of pictures: pharaohs, architecture, heiroglyphs.

 

 

One day we were over by Steak-n-Shake and saw that kids could eat free, so we dropped in to take us back in time to the '50s. It wasn't really worth it, the food wasn't great.
