Coloring Week

In an effort to keep my kids busy this summer I stole my sister's idea.  Every week we are going to have a theme and base our week's activities around it.  This week we had coloring week.  That was Jayden's idea, which is funny because he's not that into coloring.  But it turned out to be more fun than I expected.  Other things we did that aren't shown below are: we went to the library and checked out books about crayons and coloring.  Also some music books.  We intended to also have a music theme but stayed so busy with the other things we didn't get around to it.  I taped a huge piece of paper on the play room wall and let the kids color all over it.  Sidney thought that was really awesome.  (Her newest word is awesome.)

 We made new star shaped crayons out of the old broken ones.

 We went on a nature walk and filled up buckets with leaves, twigs, rocks, and bark dust.  Then we put them under paper and colored over them to see the different textures.  We also looked for textures around the yard and colored over those.  The kids loved this.

Our treat of the week was colorful layered jell-o.  We each picked a color and made layers out of it.  This picture doesn't show it, but it was really colorful, like crayons.

T-ball

T-ball was a lot of fun.  Jayden liked it for the most part.  He would get discouraged if he didn't catch the ball.  But when he got to the ball first he was ecstatic.  Toward the end of the season he would just stand there and not pay attention to the ball at all as it rolled by him.  Sometimes he said he had fun, others he said he didn't like it.  I think he really did like it, just not when the other kids didn't play their own position.  But what can you expect from a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds?  He was on the same team as one of his friends from church, and they had a lot of fun together, so that helped.  His coaches were awesome.  They were great with the kids.

 At the first game when they were high fiving each other Jayden wanted nothing to do with it.  So he didn't put his hand out and so the kids would slap his arm.  That didn't make him happy so after that he put his hand out.

Sidney's Room

It took me two years, but I finally got around to painting Sidney's room.  I think it turned out really cute and she loves it.  When she first saw the finished product she clasped her hands together and kept repeating how beautiful it is.  She better not get sick of pink anytime soon!

Primary Talent Show

The annual talent show is definitely my favorite primary activity of the year.  Every child is so entertaining, whether they are singing, playing the piano, dancing, being a princess, blowing up balloons, hula hooping, showing off their artwork, or whatever their talent is.  This year Jayden sang "Praise to the Man."  About a week ago he fell in love with the song and was singing it all over the house nonstop.  He worked really hard to memorize it.  He did a great job and remembered every word.  He was definitely less animated than he is at home.  At home he is so loud and sings the tune.  On stage I think he was a little nervous and is pretty monotone, but he did great.  He was originally going to gurgle water and sing at the same time.  I'm still not sure what the song was because I could never understand him while he was gurgling.  He changed his mind.  I'm sure the other one would have been entertaining as well.  There's always next year.

Preschool Graduation

Jayden's preschool graduation was too funny!  The kids were all so cute in their caps and gowns.  The cutest thing was when he walked down the aisle.  We were sitting right on the edge of the row.  They were playing pomp & circumstance, and when Jayden walked by us he said, "This music makes me want to cry."  What the heck?  Does he think he's graduating from high school?  Also, when he put on his gown he kept saying, "I look so WEIRD!  I just so look so WEIRD in this thing!"

They had a little program with a bunch of songs that Jayden has been talking about for months.  He was so excited to perform them for us.  We were all the way in the back so the pictures are pretty bad.

 He loved his teacher Ms. Roxanne.  She gave him a great year and great memories.  They made a little scrapbook of their year that let us have a little peek into all their activities.

T-ball

We're in the middle of t-ball season.  I'll post more on it later, but here are some team pictures for now.  Their team is called Thunder, which was also Josh's baseball team at BYU-I.  Jayden thinks that is pretty cool. 

I like this one because the coach had just pointed out where the snack was and you can see these two little boys getting ready to run for it.

Fun With Dad

Dang Quesadilla

The other day I was with the kids in the car when Jayden started saying something to Sidney about a "quesa-dill-a."  I think he was trying to get her to say it, I don't totally remember.  He kept repeating it over and over and I was laughing because I thought of this scence from Napoleon Dynamite.  After a couple minutes of this he said something else and I realized he was only saying something about Casa Della Tires (from Cars).  I'd still like to think he was saying "dang quesa-dill-a."

And here's a picture he asked me to take.  Normally he sighs dramatically when I pull the camera out, but occasionally he'll ask me to take a picture.

Strawberry Season

The kids and I went strawberry picking and now we have lots of strawberry jam in the fridge.  The kids loved it and keep asking to go again.  We just might have to do that.
